I like J as a shorthand for kWh or Newton-meters in units that incorporate joules.

kWh consumed per month makes more sense inside my heart than joules consumed per month.

I had to take the same intro-physics course twice despite passing both with perfect As, because of Paper reasons, so Joules will always be kilogram-meters-meters-per-second-squared to me. If someone expresses them as Pascal-cubic-meters or Coulomb-Volts then I will feel honestly quite Disgusted

i might be a scrooge and opt us out. it appears there aren't really any moderation tools so we could get followed and tracked by the very bad nazi instances, and i'd prefer not for them to have access to us.

Amazon actually is less spammy, from the emails I received, and really does have better implications in data privacy.

Amazon is definitely evil, we are agreed, but I have only so much time and energy to expend and I only have so many compromises I can make.

I think I'll ultimately just not read these books, unless they arrive on the high seas or if I find myself in a bookstore in the coming years

A paste of just baking soda and water also makes for a good abrasive to scrub tough caked in soap scum from your shower, I find. It takes kind of a lot of baking soda to do a whole shower but it works really well, like diatomacious earth kind of.

I wonder if there's another option for it that works as well.

Bookshop dot org may be an annoying site to use, I don't know. Amazon is also a spammy and junky website that sucks to use though.

I don't know who owns bookshop dot org but I do know Jeff Bezos is like, at best one step above being a modern slaver and Amazon is definitively complicit in genocide against Palestinians.

So like, yeah there's no ethical consumption under capitalism, I'm not saying bookshop dot org isn't probably also doing son shit behind the scenes, don't know much about them, but Amazon is absolutely one of the most malign forces currently extant on this planet.

That would be really fun! They're not too well studied since theres not much money in it sadly. But we can dream!

I don't teach, but I did volunteer as a tutor throughout college! I also got chosen to take part in a science writing fellowship which was focused on helping teach students science writing, reading the literature, etc. I also minored in science communications so there's that!

I'm so glad you find it engaging!!! Bacteria and archaea are my special interest so its easy to talk at length. Proper SciComm intimidates me a bit, but Just Posting about them is lower pressure. I just want to spread my love for these beings so often written off as pathogenic vermin.

I've been thinking about making a video where I talk through a bacteriology "iceberg" image I found online, but I worry about accuracy since I lack advanced degrees in the field.
