I thought about that exact scenario a lot, actually. I asked my dad about what it felt like to have an anesthesia during a surgery he had, and he told me he didn't remember. I misunderstood that as a kid, and I thought all it did was spare you the memory, but not the pain. I lived with that misconception for a good while :D

I have had the idea for a horror setting where there's an anesthetic that everyone thinks is really effective and a miracle drug, but it turns out all it does is paralyze you so you don't show pain, and make you completely forget when you come to. But the whole time, you're feeling everything.
Severance is a lot like that. But less body horror.

Insect protein nuggies in the shape of the giant bugs from a more oxygen rich atmosphere. To scale

So it sounds like your sign is “trebuchet?”
But seriously (lol), it takes a lot less energy to yeet them into deep space instead. More environmentally friendly that way.

I was also being facetious, but I agree, it's far from ideal.

I mean more that there are externalized costs to having grocery stores which are full of varied foods, grown worldwide, including off-season foods. Combined with most people needing a car just to get to the grocery store and bring things back with it, I think the system we have is not ideal. This is on top of all the other evils and problems with our agricultural system.
(That variety has some benefits, since people can meet their allergy and nutritional needs, and this post is short and would be paragraphs longer if I added more nuance. Also, if you get the chance and eat meat, try to each an animal for dinner that you saw running around during breakfast. It is an experience to remark on)
I am being a bit facetious, I wouldn't actually say "bourgeoisie", and I also buy groceries. All I mean is that it's not a very good system at all. We could have a better agricultural system while still having capitalism, too; it's not just "capitalism bad". Like most everyone else, I have practically no choice but to drive to the grocery store to buy frozen food.

there's no ethical consumption under capitalism, so anyone who consumes food instead of photosynthesizing is a fake revisionist leftist.
