I mostly use my phone so I don't switch on the laptop everyday, but even when I did I always shut it down for the night

This is a blatant violation of the computer fraud and abuse act of 1986. You'll be hearing from my legal team about this.

Never turn off my computer if I don't have to, same with the router. I like the hum when I'm trying to sleep. I only turn my phone off when I go to the movies which probably averages out once every four or five days.

I don’t even turn it on every day, so I clearly can’t shut it down every night lol. And I usually suspend to disk, with the occasional reboot for general system health.
On the other hand, my phone pretty much never gets shut down unless I’m doing a reboot.

Desktops never, my phone and router almost always, laptops usually (especially my Apple laptop, which seems to have good idle battery use)

I shut down every night, although windows 10 being the piece of garbage that it is, sometimes it decides that I meant to restart and I have to get up when I notice that I can still hear the fans going.

I shut down your router every so often when I get bored :-)

Reply to What if a nondescript monster vocalized at you in an indeterminate manner? by flabberghaster
my response to this one would be too " n s f w"

i would appreciate it, given the last monster

well, i would be terrified at least. kind of a fucked up thing to even have to consider

I have no way to know the monster's inner motivation for roaring at me. Ergo I would pee a little.

Hi, are you in the Postmill
directory?
git clone git@codeberg.org:Postmill/Postmill.git
cd Postmill
docker build -t registry.postmill.xyz/postmill/postmill:php-latest --target postmill_php .
docker build -t registry.postmill.xyz/postmill/postmill:web-latest --target postmill_web .
IIRC, these docker build
commands look inside the current directory for a matching Dockerfile
. It's strange, but the url registry.postmill.xyz/postmill/postmill:php-latest
is an identifier.

The tutorial has me use ports 2019 and 2015 (this is all being done locally), with the hello-world showing up on port 2015.
(pushing ahead, I'm looking to get the postmill images as outlined here. When I try to clone it, it says permission denied. This feels like an issue that anyone with some experience with git would not run in to. Am I missing something obvious)
Thank you for all of your help!

Hi! I missed this earlier.
Can you tell me what ports specifically these were on, and were you trying to connect to a Caddy server running locally (i.e. at localhost:1234
) or somewhere else?

hmm, good idea, and kind of obvious in retrospect. will employ that next time

Hi! Slow going (not overly difficult, just real life keeps interfering.), but I've just finished step 3 of part 1, and have my hello world page! I'm a bit confused by Json vs Caddyfile. When I used JSON in caddy and checked with localhost I had the hello world page on one port and the default caddy splash page on my main port. However, when I tried setting it up using a caddyfile, I only got the hello world page on the port, got a refusal to connect on my main port. Do you have any idea why there would be that difference in behaviour?
(hoping to get confident enough with caddy to try setting up postmill this coming week! We'll see how it goes!)

Reply to What do you think it means to say you're "good at cooking"? by flabberghaster
If someone is "good at cooking", I'd say they have the confidence to operate in their own kitchen space, and the capacity to make a good handful of meals from memory without any mistakes. They should be able to determine if their ingredients are fresh or not. They should know enough to know the terminology, be able to piece apart what parts really matter in a recipe, and be able to bake a few things. They should also have some baking competency.
That said, "good at cooking" might just be something someone tells you when you use a lot of butter, sugar, or salt in the meal.
And, by god, they should be using a scale for measuring whenever possible.
