Oh yeah it is really good, doesn't take itself as seriously. I could never tell if succession was meant to be a comedy, lots of people seemed to think so, but if it was it was very dry.

Are you a great soft jelly thing? Smoothly rounded, with no mouth, with pulsing white holes filled by fog where your eyes used to be? Rubbery appendages that were once your arms; bulks rounding down into legless humps of soft slippery matter? Do you leave a moist trail when you move? Blotches of diseased, evil gray come and go on your surface, as though light is being beamed from within?

Reply to bluesky exists just to push bitcoin. that's literally it. if bluesky takes off, we're all going to be using bitcoin in a few years, and that sucks by twovests
It's to push bitcoin? Any further reading on this?
I had heard one of the motivations was that jack was unhappy having to moderate twitter and wanted to have a federated model, similar to activity pub, but proprietary. That way if you wanted to avoid the racists, you could go on an instance that didn't allow it and jack wouldn't have to ban them. But all this, on a platform he owns so they can make money from ads.
I'm already hearing pretty bad news about their moderation practices.
I hadn't heard anything about it being a bitcoin thing, would love to know more.

It's a social network that people could move to and not be on Facebook. Pixelfed is a fediverse photo sharing thing, a direct competitor (well sort of) to Instagram.
It's also got a lot of prior art on the underlying protocol so they can save money on inventing their own back end.
It also has a preexisting userbase, so even if most people fediblock it they still have some network effects and don't have yo stand it up from nothing.
Lots of reasons.

If there's any point at all it seems to me like Embrace Extend Extinguish, or like what the big firms did with XMPP. Get involved to kill off a rival.

I understand that what you're looking for is more along the lines of like a feature length YouTube or a book or something but sadly I don't have that. What I do have is a web comic that sums it up pretty well I think:

Can't agree with you here; for some types of work, where the job is doesn't have to be an office. I understand that's kind of fucked up that some people have to do their work at a specific spot and some can do it elsewhere, but I don't think the answer to "some people have bad working conditions" should be "everyone should have equally bad working conditions."
