I only watched the first few episodes and I think it owns that they updated the human character designs to be more detailed and work in HD but haven't touched the animal designs at all which is pretty funny. I didn't keep up with it tho I don't really have an attachment lol

One of the shows that came up in my head while reading this is both seasons of Gatchaman Crowds, which is this big colorful action show that takes a wild twist into basically undermining the entire premise of superheroes into a more collectivist message. I don't agree with everything it says, but I think it's a great example of how anime can be bold and confrontational in ways that I don't see a lot. It's worth getting mad at lol. The music is really good too.

I'm a big fan of GC's director, Kenji Nakamura. He's done a horror show called Mononoke that's incredibly rad and a fun fishing show called Tsuritama. You'd have to pirate it but Welcome to Irabu's Office is super special to me, it's a very weird satire about psychiatry that ends up shockingly kind.

I'm a big fan of slow slice-of-life shows so I'm gonna list a couple. These shows mix bright colors, sweet energy, and dry humor.

Yurucamp: Cool camping theme, the main character is cool cause she isn't super sociable but gets slowly added to the larger group in a way that's respectful and fun to watch.

Flying Witch: This one stands out for a lot of jokes that are very funny but like, surprisingly mean, like mean in a way that only people who didn't have to worry about much would be. It's a dynamic I really like.

K-ON: The joke in this is that they're a band who don't really play instruments that much. It's a good joke that kind of evolves into what the whole show is about.

Non Non Biyori: Set in a rural village that has depopulated, so that all the grades up to high school are in one classroom. All the characters have fun dynamics but there's also this melancholy over everything that's fairly well done.

Hidamari Sketch: This one's in an art high school, it was super influential on the style and is just generally inventive.

I'm gonna end with one last big rec and it's A Place Further than the Universe, it's an incredibly good like, youth drama about Antartica. It's big and emotional and sweeps you along in unexpected ways. It rules so much.

Uhh I'm getting on too long but Masaaki Yuasa owns owns owns and his work is interesting in the way it uses the lower expectations for anime in order to take animation into wilder directions. He's a genius.

I don't know if Earthbound is a "kids" game but it definitely was played by kids, at least in Japan. I think EB's status as a cult game here makes it easy to forget that RPGs were much more mainstream in Japan when it came out.

for a monitor where you're up close to it it makes a big difference

It's so cool and definitely a bigger deal than 8K or whatever the fuck

The viewing angles on TN monitors are better than they used to be, and it doesn't matter as much cause you're going to be able to control what angle you're looking at it pretty well. The tradeoffs are worth it for the lower costs and higher frame rates I feel, though you can get a nice 60hz IPS for not too much.

The HDR you're thinking of is a different kind of thing to like, the display technology. That HDR hasn't really come to monitors yet, but I have an HDR TV and it's extremely cool. The difference is in the backlighting, in a conventional LCD screen it's just one uniform lamp, in an HDR screen there's multiple lights that light different parts of the screen differently (or if you're talking about an OLED screen, each individual pixel has its own brightness). Content with HDR data will be able to tell the display how bright each pixel should be, so you can get dark or bright areas with fine detail. Even for content that doesn't have HDR data, a good HDR screen will be able to make it look good basically by guessing how bright or dark part of the screen should be.

It's worth mentioning that a lot of TVs have HDR labels but like don't really do much with the data, you kinda have to read reviews to know if it's any good at it. My TV is a midrange kind of thing, it doesn't have a ton of dimming zones so sometimes there's halos around things (you can notice this with like, white lines on a black background) but wow I still love the effect. The purpose of a display is to throw light around and HDR just does it better.

Sorry to uhh, kinda geek out lol. There really isn't an HDR monitor worth getting at the moment, but it's something to keep an eye out for in the future.

New TN panels have gotten way better than they used to be, I wouldn't worry too much. The only feature I'd conciser a game changer is HDR that's a completely different price range lol

I actually had a nice TN and a nice IPS monitor on my desk at the same time for a while and like, I could barely tell the difference lol

I have a 1440p monitor and I really like it, it's a nice resolution for working.

I do ATX because I like having the extra space and airflow, gets things quieter and cooler and helps your parts last longer. You don't really need all that space on the board, maybe go mATX motherboard and ATX case? That's something I'm thinking about doing. I do love your ATX case, I have a similar one from Nanoxia.

A CPU cooler is a nice investment you can use for builds going forward, and will generally be quieter and cooler than whatever you get in the box. I've been eyeing a Noctua NH-D15. You would know better than I would if you want that, I'm planning on overclocking in the future.

I was kinda surprised that you chose a 2060 for a 1080p60 monitor, like I was sure there were cheaper cards for 1080p60, but no you don't really save that much on a 1660. Maybe a RX 580? Or wait them to announce the 1650? Graphics cards are wild.

I'm happy with my 970 and I'm waiting on a replacement but I'm not really sure what I'm waiting for.

FEAR isn't really a horror game, it's an action game that's really good at giving you cool feeling guns and convincing you of your physical body in space. Like there's cool kicks and stuff and the controls are amazing.

The horror is mostly just theming, like they break up the bad guy shooting with a spooky part. It works pretty well even if it isn't much more than just some jump scares.

But yea you should play SOMA if you want a horror game it's so good.
