Portal, Portal 2, Undertale, pretty much every Mario or Metroid game, the 2D Zeldas, etc. are all some of my favorite games, and they're usually less than 12 hours to beat.

They're short, with engaging gameplay, music, and visuals!

But now that I'm making a gaming rig for the first time, I'm excited to play all those games I couldn't play!

DOOM (2016) is on that list, so is Hellblade. Anything else I should add?

Shadowrun Dragonfall is a bit longer than under 12 hours, maybe 15-20 but it's also the best single player rpg in existence so worth playing

Hong Kong is decent too and it's newer so the gameplay is a little bit tidier but the story in dragonfall is amazing!

the original F.E.A.R. was really good and not too long. don't even bother with any of the sequels though they took the story in a gross and awful direction and the gameplay wasn't as good either, even though the graphics were shinier

FEAR isn't really a horror game, it's an action game that's really good at giving you cool feeling guns and convincing you of your physical body in space. Like there's cool kicks and stuff and the controls are amazing.

The horror is mostly just theming, like they break up the bad guy shooting with a spooky part. It works pretty well even if it isn't much more than just some jump scares.

But yea you should play SOMA if you want a horror game it's so good.

If you don't mind a bit of a left field suggestion, The Secret of the Monkey Island has a remastered version that looks cool, has a good soundtrack and I for one enjoyed the game play - it's possibly the single best introduction to the genre. It is very light fare, story wise, and has a genuinely sweet, funny vibe to it. The game design is, I think, quite good, but I won't gush about it now.
