I have an electric gooseneck kettle made of stainless steel. It lacks branding and my mom got it for me so I don't know the model really. I like it because it has a lot of discrete temperature settings (I am particular about this) and it looks pretty

I don't remember the brand name, but mine is a stainless steel stovetop kind that I got at a middle eastern market.

I guess even if it turns out to be less efficient than a microwave I can still precisely control how hot my water is from the dispenser (since it has a celsius indicator)

I think technology connections has a video where he says that while he thinks it sucks to do that, it's pretty energy efficient because the heat gets beamed directly into the water as opposed to using a coil stove. This assumes you don't have an electric kettle.
I might be wrong about the contents of this video. https://youtu.be/_yMMTVVJI4c?si=EKY61S8BddZ0AOKH

It's 108,000 Joules to heat up my cup of tea with the microwave. I don't have an electric or induction stove, otherwise I'd test it and see which comes out ahead in terms of energy usage.

That makes more sense. I usually do a cup of plain black tea in the morning.

if you drink the same tea every time, that's fine but different tea leaves steep at different temps!

I can usually achieve about the same water temperature by filling up the cup with the same amount of water I always do, and microwaving it for 120 seconds.

having control over the water temp, brewing more than a mug's worth , the ritual of tea ceremony, washing your tea leaves, etc

people are soooo bad at keeping microwaves clean. microwaved water becomes a weakly flavorful broth. memories of myriad microwaved meals
