I really like the new canon where it sounds like Mega Man's brains are not electrical circuits but are instead a pair of gears.

Honestly my starting hypothesis was that a corner civilization would win, I'd be interested in a torus AI battle where left and right and also upper and lower edges were connected.

list of gaming crimes:
- sonic without shoes
- shaved mario
- the diving animation in breath of the wild which kills your height when you want to glide and i'm totally not mad about this at all

It's a bit hard to follow early on, but AI games are usually pretty fun to watch :)

i mostly play multiplayer pvp type games so it's a fun exercise to think back on my favorite story-driven titles thru the years!
-
'88-'98: Super Mario RPG. i had to go with this, it feels like kind of an accident of history that it's so good. square and nintendo were both in top form and their collaboration on this one really shows it. memorable characters, fun and (at the time) innovative combat, state-of-the-art graphics, and some of the best BGM of any SNES title.
-
'99-'08: Jet Set Radio. still my favorite video game soundtrack of all time, a great novel concept and fantastic execution. maybe some minor gripes about camera behavior but that was really common in third person games of the era.
-
'09-'13: FTL was my favorite single player game of this era and i still come back to it regularly. it hits that nice balance betweeen difficulty and replayability that i think a lot of roguelikes struggle to get right. it feels like the great star trek game we always deserved but never got.
-
'14-'16: Papers Please was really good and i feel like it has only gotten more relevant lately. i normally can't go in for games with multiple endings because i don't have the patience to replay the entire game nor the organization to keep all my save points straight so i know when to branch. i loved the way they handled branching story paths in that game and was actually excited to find different endings.
-
2017: it's probably premature to say that Night In The Woods is my favorite story game of all time but i have replayed it like 5-6 times since it came out and it's still in my head on a regular basis with no signs of stopping. i love everything about it.
-
Into The Breach is a worthy successor to FTL and just as addictive. i kind of wish there was more storytelling and lore in the game but it's really well-designed strategy and very replayable

- Yoshi's Island
- God Hand
- No good games came out in this era so you're good. (that's actually not the case there's Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Vanquish, and the Yakuzas)
- DOOM
- 2017 was an incredible year, ----> Yakuza 0 <----, Nier: Automata, Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2, Mario Odyssey!!!
- Luigi's Balloon World

- Games from 1988-1998
A lot of 16 bit games have held up really well but I think the early 3d games of the time have kind of languished. Super Metroid, Super Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario World, and Kirby Super Star are some of my all-time favorites.
- Games from 1999-2008
Paper Mario was probably my most beloved game from this time period. It's a cute RPG with a good sense of humor.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 are very good RPGs. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is a great platformer. I played an obscene amount of Warcraft 3 and Starcraft: Brood War during this time too.
- Games from 2009-2013
FEZ, Gone Home, Dark Souls.
- Games from 2014-2016
Hyper Light Drifter, Ori and the Blind Forest
- Games from 2017
Hollow Knight
- Games from 2018
I don't think I've played any fantastic games this year. Wizard of Legend is pretty fun

going back and playing the kirby games was a good experience. playing through doom 1 and 2 is better than playing a lot of modern games.
Games from 1999-2008
portal 1 is worth replaying now. ill also write here that the first three spyro games are good
Games from 2009-2013 you must play fallout new vegas. arkham asylum was a good game. the sims 3 was a good game
Games from 2014-2016 shadowrun dragonfall and sr hong kong were good. stardew valley was great. the witness was good.
Games from 2017 hollow knight, pyre and tacoma are probably the three standout games of 2017 for me. i dont like nier automata as much as other people like nier automata but its good.
Games from 2018 i dont think ive played any 2018 games yet
i dont even know if these fit with the games you listed theyre just the games that i think about when asked for recommendations and i look through my steam library i guess??? ill tell any motherfucker to play fallout new vegas
i omit a lot of newer console only games because i was pc only since like 2010 so shrug emoji.

4 Tyranny of all the gams from 16 i think this is the one i think about most. it one of the few games that dose the whole choices matter well mostly because all of them just feel bad. it super good at making putting you in a bad place with no real good way out.
6 Monster Hunter World I have not play in like 3 mouths but between when it came out and like mid march i had 150~ hours in it. if you dont like kind of grindy game you will prob not like it as much but i still think you have fun with it if you just stop playing after the end and not do any post game things. All of the monster are super cool in the way they move and act and i can only think of 2 there are a pain and unfun to fight.
ill do the others later maybe

I reinstalled skyrim and a bunch of character creation mods and spent a couple of hours making a character, played the tutorial, then lost interest :p
