  1. Games from 1988-1998

A lot of 16 bit games have held up really well but I think the early 3d games of the time have kind of languished. Super Metroid, Super Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario World, and Kirby Super Star are some of my all-time favorites.

  1. Games from 1999-2008

Paper Mario was probably my most beloved game from this time period. It's a cute RPG with a good sense of humor.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 are very good RPGs. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is a great platformer. I played an obscene amount of Warcraft 3 and Starcraft: Brood War during this time too.

  1. Games from 2009-2013

FEZ, Gone Home, Dark Souls.

  1. Games from 2014-2016

Hyper Light Drifter, Ori and the Blind Forest

  1. Games from 2017

Hollow Knight

  1. Games from 2018

I don't think I've played any fantastic games this year. Wizard of Legend is pretty fun

I beat Kirb last night and it was amazing. The pacing was just right. The music was fantastic! I loved all the call-backs to earlier games in the series, from entirely recreated levels (Floria from Super Star!!) to remixed music and boss fights. The final boss even had attacks that referenced the final bosses from Super Star and Crystal Shards.

The only thing missing for me was a remix of the timeless final boss music from super star - Marx's Theme

I loved Darker than Black season 1 but season 2 is really awful. It has been awhile since I watched it so I don't remember too much but Hei takes a young girl under his wing and more or less trains her as a child soldier, taking on the role of the verbally abusive drill sergeant/mentor. All of his endearing qualities are completely gone. There's a complete dearth of likeable characters and really bad pacing issues. I recommend skipping Season 2 because there isn't an ounce of any of the good stuff from season 1 in it.
