  4. DOOM

  1. Games from 1988-1998

A lot of 16 bit games have held up really well but I think the early 3d games of the time have kind of languished. Super Metroid, Super Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario World, and Kirby Super Star are some of my all-time favorites.

  1. Games from 1999-2008

Paper Mario was probably my most beloved game from this time period. It's a cute RPG with a good sense of humor.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 are very good RPGs. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is a great platformer. I played an obscene amount of Warcraft 3 and Starcraft: Brood War during this time too.

  1. Games from 2009-2013

FEZ, Gone Home, Dark Souls.

  1. Games from 2014-2016

Hyper Light Drifter, Ori and the Blind Forest

  1. Games from 2017

Hollow Knight

  1. Games from 2018

I don't think I've played any fantastic games this year. Wizard of Legend is pretty fun

going back and playing the kirby games was a good experience. playing through doom 1 and 2 is better than playing a lot of modern games.

Games from 1999-2008

portal 1 is worth replaying now. ill also write here that the first three spyro games are good

Games from 2009-2013 you must play fallout new vegas. arkham asylum was a good game. the sims 3 was a good game

Games from 2014-2016 shadowrun dragonfall and sr hong kong were good. stardew valley was great. the witness was good.

Games from 2017 hollow knight, pyre and tacoma are probably the three standout games of 2017 for me. i dont like nier automata as much as other people like nier automata but its good.

Games from 2018 i dont think ive played any 2018 games yet

i dont even know if these fit with the games you listed theyre just the games that i think about when asked for recommendations and i look through my steam library i guess??? ill tell any motherfucker to play fallout new vegas

i omit a lot of newer console only games because i was pc only since like 2010 so shrug emoji.

anyway going back and emulating old console games is good but i cant recommend anything really specifically?? mario

4 Tyranny of all the gams from 16 i think this is the one i think about most. it one of the few games that dose the whole choices matter well mostly because all of them just feel bad. it super good at making putting you in a bad place with no real good way out.

6 Monster Hunter World I have not play in like 3 mouths but between when it came out and like mid march i had 150~ hours in it. if you dont like kind of grindy game you will prob not like it as much but i still think you have fun with it if you just stop playing after the end and not do any post game things. All of the monster are super cool in the way they move and act and i can only think of 2 there are a pain and unfun to fight.

ill do the others later maybe

ya there arent actually that many visual character creators out there

oblivion has a bad character creator but that game can still be fun. if you havent played morrowind i'm not going to tell you its amazing but it's a good game if you enjoyed oblivion/skyrim and want to see the same core ideas with worse/less intuitive/worse mechanics and probably a more interesting story

FFXIV is the classic modern character creator game with an actual game you can play too. if you just want to make characters there was a black desert online standalone character creator, though im not sure if its still supported or if you have to download the whole game now. these are both mmos though.

dragon age origins is still a fantastic game + is worth playing. dragon age 2 has, uh, interesting characters?? dragon age inquisition is a game with a lot of content that isnt particularly satisfying but what they get right can be really engaging. that said im not actually sure theres much

saints row 3 + 4 have character creators and theyre fun but not especially Great games

yall heard of skyrim

fallout new vegas has a character creator but its bad. but fallout new vegas is great.

if you play as a lady you can get something out of the mass effect character creator. if you play as a man youll look like a foot

theres character creation in gta5 online

the sims is still good despite ea's best efforts. if you picked up the sims 2 complete edition back when ea was giving it up for free you can get enjoyment out of that game even in 2018. the sims 3 is probably the best version youre gonna get but they certainly make you pay for it

I'm only like 7h in but it's like night and day better so far. Mystery of the giant statue god is way cooler than the first games grim nonsense. Pirating is cool too, makes the game feel big. But also like, it's streamlined and managable kind of big.

I'm not into the combat cause I can't get my head around it. But everything else rules.
