What TV shows are you watching lately?

I've watched a few shows recently. Our Flag Means Death is like gay dessert, or perhaps a comforting gay soup. It feels like it nourishes the 2012-era Tumblr queer in me, where queerness is something seen and consumed, and synonymous with fandom. But I don't care, it's fantastic. It has the same mildly-improvisational theatre-kids-hanging-out vibes of Waititi's other popular works (like What We Do in the Shadows or Thor: Ragnarok).

Taika Waititi and Rhys Darby are straight, supposedly, which was surprising. I know it's important and good to hire queer actors to play queer people, but most of the rest of the cast is queer.

I've also been watching The Boys: Gen V. It's a spinoff / interquel between the main series Season 3 and Season 4. It shifts the focus from recuperative anticapitalism to milquetoast "social media is bad" and leans heavier into the superhero slog, but I still enjoy it.

While I'm listing shows I'm watching without a lot of glee, Rick and Morty is back with Season 7. They're leaning more into the "you really shouldn't like Rick, you really shouldn't hate Jerry, you should go to therapy" this season. Over the summer, I also watched the latest seasons of Archer and What We Do in the Shadows. I think these two shows are getting increasingly good, if they're your thing.

I've tried getting into Curb Your Enthusiasm, an old show that feels like a long-form, down-to-earth version of "I Think You Should Leave". The main character is kind of awful, in a way that seems to point out the value of social conventions and expectations. I unfortunately relate to him, and so I've stopped watching the show and decided to look into starting therapy again.

If you liked Castlevania on Netflix, you should know Season 1 of a sequel series, Castlevania Nocturne is out.

I also tried getting into Fionna and Cake, but it felt like Bee and Puppycat... They're shows I want to love! They're shows I think I'd love! But I just don't :(

I tried watching Apple's "Silo", but it's Not Good. Apparently there's also a TV show remake of Snowpiercer? What? Just go watch the movie again! It's a Willy Wonka fanfiction! If you want more, The Platform answers the question, "What if Snowpiercer were an elevator?"

I'm realizing I watch a lot of TV, and I am very sorry. I will not forgive myself. Tell me more to watch.

Oh, and Kiff. How could I forget Kiff? Kiff is good if you need to watch a kids cartoon, or if you want to relive the feeling of watching Spongebob for the first time.

i saw community on netflix and was like "i never finished the first season when i first watched it like 12 years ago so lets try it again" and it's pretty good. in some ways its totally retrograde and 2009 (casual use of the t word, they have flip phones) but it's still funny for the most part.

Been rewatching Buffy and Angel.

Just finished watching Brooklyn 99. I'm kinda glad they ended it when they did.

I watched The Platform and really, really did not like it.

I keep seeing recommendations for Our Flag Means Death and What We Do In The Shadows so I might check those out. I liked matt berry in The It Crowd.

I really enjoyed The Last Man On Earth, a couple years back. And also, Sweet Tooth season one is good, or I liked it. Season two came out this summer and I'm gonna watch that.

If you like Apple TV stuff I enjoyed Severance but I think they're making a second season. I can't imagine season 2 will be good. But we'll see.

Definitely watch For All Mankind.

I've been watching What We Do in the Shadows with a girl. Very fun little vampire sitcom. Was expecting it to be more of follow-on from the film but Matt Berry and crew in New York works great instead.

I was watched through Kingdom with a Discord server recently. 12-episode Korean zombie show set in late 16th century Joseon. Fun premise and swings between tense zombie stuff, political intrigue and silly over the top action bits.

On my own I’ve been making my way through The Prisoner. Fun to see spy thriller tropes wrapped in surrealism. Episodes kind of vary a lot in how good they are but some are great.

I watched The Office (UK) because I felt like it's a big enough thing that I should have seen it. Then I decided to watch The Office (US) because I wanted to compare and contrast the adaptation. I don't particularly enjoy either of them but it's something to have on in the background.

I watched the Netflix Pluto adaptation. The ending fell a little flat for me—some of the final revelations didn't quite feel worth all that build-up—but there were a couple of twists along the way that I really enjoyed. Gorgeous animation, too.

Oh yes - last season of Archer was really good. Lana moved into Malory's role and Archer moved into Lana's role, and it's excellent seeing Archer (who cares now) try to wrangle a new agent who treats him exactly like he treated Lana all those years

yeah at the end it says like "russo brothers productions" and im like THOSE russo brothers?

i havent watched a marvel movie since the avengers and dont really remember what the comedy is like in them other than like "is he behind me? hes behind me isnt he" but i feel like community is genuinely funny in subtle ways sometimes that we dont see in marvel. at the same time... i'm not that discerning lol

Marvel movies these days are split between senes that look like a multi-camera sitcom, but like, worse, and confusing CGI barf action scenes. The movies drag on and on because the Community writing style has to constantly serve a mass of additional storylines that are purposefully drawn out and aren't allowed to go anywhere. It's a deeply bizzare way to make movies and it not a surprise that's it currently crashing down around them.

The next one, The Marvels, is probably going to tank, which is funny because the premise and look of it actually sounds like it might actually make the superhero sitcom work for once.
