It helps that the intro is really, really fun. I'm not someone who likes music but I really like that intro song. I was also born just in time to experience music videos as a dying relic of a bygone era, but not to feel any of the nostalgia for the low-budget non-advertisement choreographed extravaganza delight of a miniature music video that is the Peacemaker introduction.

It takes a lot of work to make an intro people never skip, and it also takes a lot of work to make a music video someone is willing to watch once a week, every week, for several months.

For a character that's meant to be the satirical embodiment of the United States, they managed to make Peacemaker a fully-realized and sympathetic character who's also a huge goofball. He's a "George W. Bush" type character I think.

Anyways, all this is to say is I felt similarly about the show. My low expectations were shattered, it's despite everything, it's quite a delight.

Shur is also on The Good Place. That fact alone from this review got me to start watching the show, and I am enjoying it! Thank you for posting

It's actually not, it's very good! The premise is what if the soviets beat the US to the moon. Each season takes place in a different era in the space race, in an alternate history where things are a bit better.

The current season however takes place under president Al Gore and everything is being privatized (which is portrayed negatively) so there's kind of a lot of shitty stuff going on. The show itself is good.

i feel like this could've been a one-off serial with S1-S3 contained in six episodes and then S4 left as it is

i also didn't sympathize with any of the characters. i thought it would've been unrealistic to randomly kill off three billionaires in the finale even if it would've been satisfying. so i think they should've waited three weeks for the finale

I don't think you can adapt Wheel of Time without the gender essentialism. You'd need to rewrite a lot of the core ideas. I'm watching the first episode at the moment and they don't seem to be shying away from it with the taint still being there and the Red Ajah misandry, so it's odd that they are throwing in that the Dragon could be a woman, when part of the tension around the prophecy is that male channellers are inherently a massive danger but he is also meant to be a messiah.
