Dan Carlin is kind of a "big man" historian which I dislike personally but he's obviously passionate about what he does. His voice can be a little grating don't tell him I said that

no idea if it's normal or not but I am often also in the same boat where I do things for people out of a pure sense of obligation, of detached "I want to be the kind of person who would do this kind thing," with no real feelings associated with it.

I guess it depends, like if they're a friend and have a really nice positive reaction I might ride the high of gift giving but if it's more of a courtesy thing like it sounds your sitch was, it might not register like that.

Reply to do you think the band "The Killers" picked their name as a deliberate reference to the best ever death metal band out of denton, or is it just a coincidence? by Dogmantra
ive thought about this too, and i think those other names are taken now too

I've lived in a few houses where the oven light didn't work :0 I think of it as an exception when they DO work, actually!

my oven light actually blew the other day!

I've had to, actually. But I am curious about the answer, as well, so I did a little research. Supposedly if you use an incandescent bulb with a lower voltage, you make the coefficient of efficiency worse but you simultaneously extend the lifespan of it by quite a bit. In a oven, low energy efficiency is not a major problem as the waste heat just gets to be used in heating the oven itself. So perhaps the lamps are quite usual but just get used at a lower voltage? Or perhaps the filament is thicker so it burns slower. I didn't arrive at an answer, but have few plausible conjectures instead.

Reply to so if hyperrealistic jigglypuff is fuzzy, does that mean hyperrealistic kirby is fuzzy too? by hollyhoppet
Most Pokemon have always had fur, this isn't new. That's what Puff's curled hair at the top is supposed to represent.
I don't think Kirby has ever been depicted with fur on the other hand. AFAIK it's just skin, I think.

Controversial Opinion #2: I'm not the slightest bit interested in "generation wars" and enjoy having friends of different ages.

I greatly dislike iPhones and had to throw mine away, but I do understand how loyal iFolks can be. I won't push my own opinions about software on to you now that I know. You can always ask if you're curious and I am always receptive to new information.

Me either and it has to do with childhood trauma/abuse.
I don't go around kicking puppies or anything and I like the CONCEPT of dogs, I just don't ever want to be responsible for one or in a situation where I can't just leave and avoid them.

Absolutely. Can we be controversial together?

I think this is a pretty good reason that can't be criticized, anything that makes computing less dorky is good in my book.

Yea, I feel you. I'm not doing the direct action but my fantasies are getting.....well, scary.
I don't think it's possible to only do good consumption. Think "least bad". Also, what I'm trying when I freeze up and get overwhelmed with afk stuff is "next best thing" and/or "best next thing".
I can't make my family respect me and stop gaslighting me but I can water this african violet or wash my favourite plate.
hth.....I'm there too so talking to myself as well as you.

He seems to admire Winston Churchill despite going over what a raging alcoholic bastard he was in his "inebriated history" episode. No comment on that. I do like the idea of podcasting about different historical figures who were absolutely off their tits, he mentions Dr. Feelgood, everybody's favorite bourgeois pharmacist
