the most visible entities to attempt to reclaim [shithole country] are doing so on behalf those who are being marginalized, rather than stemming full-force from the group whose humanity is at stake

this I think is the crux of the problem. Much like you don't get to forcibly reclaim slurs for other people, if you're not from a place, calling it a shithole has a real different and not-ok vibe. I can see the similarities but I think this is a pretty different thing from people calling themselves "nasty women" etc

on the other hand “nevertheless, she persisted” is dope as hell imo

unrelated but in high school i went on a month-long school trip to japan and my friend who was also on the trip was VERY tall (6ft something) and just towered over everyone and I still remember the one time we were walkin and randomly met a japanese dude who was the same height and they both freaked out over it. it was a wonderful experience that surpassed all language barriers

I watched season 1 in november 2016 and it was exactly the salve my soul needed, I will always remember it fondly for that

I will admit I'm enjoying how much harder this show is willing/allowed to go than most cartoons. Folks straight up die! They talk about kickin trolls in the nards! It's a fun change of pace.
