Try this (horrible hack but you're already copy pasting directly into your interpreter so quick and dirty is fine)
Throw triple quotes, then paste, then end triple quotes. Now you have a string. Just eval that.

I have done this before (realized i forgot my password) and realized it after I'd shut down. Since mu disk is not encrypted i just opened it up in a live CD and did the normal passwd thing. Your way is super slick!

you could make wrapper functions around your numpy calls that take and return normal lists and do the casting to numpy arrays and reshaping on them; at the end of the day your options for syntax sugar are a bit limited depending on what you're doing.
