I don't know how much y'all have been following the rapid rise of federated threaded forum sites after reddit shat the bed for the 100th time. This time, it was different. This time it affected tech-savvy cis males, so something had to be done! Let me give you a quick overview of what's going on.

Two pieces of server software, lemmy and kbin, are competing for mind share. The competition is fierce, since the two softwares use the same protocol, are completely compatible, and can see the same communities. Lemmy has a snazzy web 3.0 interface, so it is the natural choice of the hip modern trend-chasing cyberspace surfer. Kbin, on the other hand, is a more reliable and future-proof technology. It does not rely on cheap gimmicks. It doesn't force circle-shaped avatars, comment replies are more indented, the default theme is grayscale, and it is written in php.

A rumor has been going around that the developers of lemmy are tankies. This has been vehemently denied by many tankies, who assert that this is all just liberal slander; calling your community 'lemmygrad' and having mao zedong as your profile picture does not indicate anything, and if you think otherwise you are probably racist (and definitely a liberal).

Meanwhile, the jstpst of the lemmyverse (if jstpst were 1000 times bigger with the same amount of moderators) has decided to isolate themselves from the largest lemmy servers due to shitty moderation tools and a massive influx of trolls and redditors. This decision has been mocked by redditors from the affected servers, since individual server administrators caring for their community and choosing who to associate with is clearly against the spirit of federation.

Now, at this point, you're probably asking: "But bunnies, is there enough content on this so called "threaded fediverse" to keep myself entertained while taking a shit, or will I have to go back to reading shampoo bottles?". So far, the answer is yes. Stay tuned for more updates!
