i firstly thought that too but it fits the original video! the "foreground" is black in the original and the "depth" is white

The "proper" way (ie a bit more difficult to learn but easier on the eyes) has your eyeline cast beyond the screen. Done like this, the foreground (apple girl) is indeed the wrong depth :'(
