i love donuts but making em from scratch is a pain. cause you have to let em rise, and it takes a while, and really dry air (like i have) can cause issues with that whole process. but you can just get the refrigerated cans of biscuit dough and cut each biscuit dough circle in half and fry that and it's pretty much exactly the same thing. i like nutmeg+cinnamon+sugar on mine but you can also glaze em or whatever you like.

when i was fresh out of 20 years of republican evangelical brainwashing, Shakesville was one of the places that helped me make sense of what had happened to me and how much i didn't know about the world and the experiences of other people. it took me several more years after that to realize that a lot of the people on that website would have me replace one inflexible moral absolutism with another. and as in the church, those with the most influence were the ones most likely to be corrupted by it.

i'm also still taking the same covid precautions as always even though most of the people i know IRL aren't anymore (for no good reason). an old friend of mine actually just moved to my city and i haven't been able to go over and visit with them because i still have to be just as careful as always. i have multiple people in my life going through chemotherapy and an infant niece to worry about. i totally understand your frustration, this experience has taught me how many otherwise rational people i know will actually choose to ignore data because they don't want it to be true.

it can be very lonely to affirm what you know is the truth, but i don't think you should feel bad about yourself or your actions for it.

if you go the self hosted route i like jekyll for this purpose. you can host entirely on github pages which is where i host teatimer.site (although i don't use jekyll for that, it's too simple to need jekyll)

thanks for the helpful comments everybody. i'm writing Elixir instead of C in this case, but that just goes to show that you can have this problem in any language with macros. i remember feeling this way about some lisp code in the past, too.

the cultural shift towards ubiquitous CCTV in the 90s and then the rise of cell phone cameras in the 00s paved the way for this new cultural norm of "if you're in public you consent to being filmed", and i absolutely hate it. whenever i'm in a public place i'm worried i will end up in a video like this and not even know it. i know i have a tendency to stick out, in a way that some people like to ridicule, i just thought i had largely left the need to worry about that behind when i finished high school.

oh goodness. i'm so sorry if i hurt yours or anyone else's feelings by that remark. i am also autistic, i wasn't trying to make any kind of allusions to that at all. thank you for pointing that out. i will not make that mistake again in the future.
