Hosting your own Pi-Hole at home is smart, but it's a hard thing to do on a VPS for a bunch of reasons.

NextDNS offers an ad-blocking DNS server like PiHole, but you can use it when not connected to your home wifi. Sweet!

For $2/month, you get unlimited queries on unlimited devices, which seems strange (you could just share that with everyone you know?)

It seems like a sweet deal. I'm wondering if the cool people here have thoughts on it?

if it saves you a bunch of tedious setup, and you aren't concerned about snooping, then surely it's worth the price? personally i just use wireguard to access services on my home network, but this may not be an option in some circumstances (e.g. isp puts you behind cgnat)

I think I ask here just because I've had >10 years of this place having niche specific knowledge of what's actually very much not good.

VPNing in to my various things has been really bad for me on mobile, but I have tried that before :D
