I'm interested in the ones you find the most informative! Especially those that can deal with not-sprites. (I'm not gonna be in 3D but I am gonna have vectors so it's like 3D but with 2 dimensions? is there a word for that? i should know that right?)

These are really for understanding calculations from 8- and 16-bit consoles so may not be what you're looking for but still might help you understand how to get certain feels down hopefully.
Sonic Physics Guide. High-ish level overview of how physics calculations work for Sonic.
Mario Physics Guide. Lower level detail guide to SMB physics in all its hexadecimal glory.

Ooh this is useful. I was thinking of working around a physics engine but I might just end up writing me own for 2D, using the sonic physics guide.
The big thing is I'm worried about fuckiness with infinitesimally flat 2D meshes that don't use the extra 3rd dimension tbh.
