I would do something like

  • casual
  • serious
  • media
  • crafts (i.e. forums things people here made, not necessarily just physical craftwork)
  • tech
  • support/personal
  • meta

I'd prefer to provide categories on an as-needed (if-ever-needed) basis from a direct request from someone. There doesn't seem to be a way to remove them after being added and I don't want the list to get too bloated
