when i streamed quake champions every night for a few weeks just as the beta NDA lifted, i had a total of 3 random viewers, two of whom never talked in chat in any way (i think one was my mom or something), and one of whom was just some horny on main dude who PM'd me dick pics with no warning and wouldn't shut up about all the stuff he was fantasizing about doing to me.

haven't tried it since. i wanted to try to teach newbies how to play better but even tho i'm pretty decent at quake, i'm not rapha, and he streams a lot so i think that niche is filled. i don't have the right temperament for it.

  1. they're jrpgs
  2. things like a consistent setting and logic are secondary to emotional concerns and looking cool
  3. they're generally written backwards, with tons of supplemental material, series expectations, and marketing requirements shaping the story
  4. a common thing that ff devs say is that ff games are never finished, just released. they are given long and indulgent development schedules and budgets without really thinking about the end, just how much can they do before they can't delay the game anymore.
  5. mostly tho it's cause they're jrpgs

there is zero reason to give any legitimacy to these assholes, and if you're treating one firing different from the other then yes that is exactly what you're doing. I'm seeing it everywhere in response to this and it's honestly fucking me up.

shitheads have been harassing her for years, and they we able to get their claws in over this for precisely this reason. fuck anyone who is letting them

do you deliberately misread comments for fun? are you just looking to get upset about dumb shit? she told a player to fuck off for being an idiot in her menchies. youll get punished by management for hurting the feelings of customers even if they deserve it and even if its off company time and on a private twitter account. only through wilful misinterpretation could you come to the conclusion that i think there was an actual reason or cause to fire her

from a shithead point of view i can see why Price got fired (not saying that its right but youre not allowed to hurt the feelings of customers, who are delicate) but the guy who defended her could probably sue for wrongful termination if you guys do that in america

that's a really good question! i never really got into minecraft multiplayer so i don't really have any experience on the subject. one thing i wish i had expanded on more in the original post is how increasingly homogeneous the communities of different games are now compared to before. i can't speak with any authority but if i had to hazard an unsupported guess, maybe some of it is spillover from other games contemporary with minecraft that did have managed servers. i don't really know though.

I agree, playing on the TF2 server I frequented literally led me to being who I am today, I made friends I still have, realised I was trans and depressed, and ended up getting into media stuff pretty much as a result of people I met there. Couldn't do that with matchmaking.

I guess it also did get me into league of legends so it wasn't all good

agree with this pretty wholeheartedly though i will pose the question "what about minecraft?" not until microsoft implemented Realms (which are controlled/moderated by end users but hosted by microsoft) were there developer hosted servers but one could argue that a similar toxic culture emerged in that playerbase

maybe we could point to the commodification of video game servers where minecraft servers are run by actual companies, now, often hosting game mods where players can pay to receive in game rewards?
