i spend most of my time and money on AAA games. but i get 200 indie games for $4 and have an absolute mindblowing blast that leave me feeling changed. why do i play AAA games?
idea: instead of making some AAA games, make a bunch of indie games until you hit on the next Undertale or FNAF or Minecraft
think of the last time you played a AAA game and you came out thinking "oh that was a new and unique experience"
here are the ones i can think of since 2010:
- portal 2
- super mario odyssey
- skyrim (my first open world game)
i can't think of any other games that felt surprising and new!
and now think of the last time you played an indie game and came out thinking "oh that was a new and unique experience"
here are just some memorable indie games i can think of:
- undertale
- celeste
- minecraft
- gris
- outer wilds
- hellblade: senua's sacrifice
- Goomba Online (an extremely niche 2D Game Maker MMO where you play as goombas, that died like, 12 years ago)
- hades
- hollow knight
- oneshot
- deltarune
- look i swear i am going to play gone home some time
- so many metroidvanias that somehow bring something new. (Environmental Station Alpha, Ori 1 and 2, Hollow Knight, AM2R, etc)
- The Stanley Parable
- Adanaxis
- Superliminal
- Super Hot
- Monument Valley
- Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy
imagine if the president of videogames said "we are not making any more games. we are instead hosting a huge indie gamedev tournament"/ imagnie. imagine...
