So, Pluto is a retelling of Astro Boy, an anime I had never seen but I understand to be revolutionary for serial animation as an artform for telling stories.
I didn't mention this in my first post, because I didn't want to spoil things, but apparently this is Super Obvious To Anyone Who Knows Anything About Astroboy.
It explains why when Astroboy appears, the narrative shifts to him entirely for a few episodes.
The story is like a colorful robo crime noir with a lot of the robot-rights-civil-rights analogues you'd expect.
I'm watching this with dubs, and I am happy I did, because Keith David is in it and I love Keith David.
5/7, I didn't really understand it (and I haven't finished it, so no spoilers hehe)

pluto review part two: this reminds me why i hate anime so much. this feels so stretched out. every anime i finish i feel lost it just goes on and on. this should've been half as long
