the little toe has 4 muscles that flex it (FDB, FDL, FDM, 4th lumbrical) and one of these (FDM) flexes only the little toe. this means you can flex the little toe on its own without* moving your other toes
but! it only has one single muscle that extends it (EDL) and that muscle is also responsible for extending the other lateral 4 digits.
so. you can flex your little toe but no matter how hard you try you cant extend it without extending the rest of your toes.
i really dont like this. like, its MY toe i should be able to do what i want with it !!!
(also the hand kind of has a similar situation going on where none of the fingers excluding the thumb and little finger have dedicated flexors so flexing a finger is always going to mvoe the other fingers unless you hold them still by simultaneously extending the other fingers. EXCEPT that the index and little finger do have dedicated extensors which means you can extend those to a reasonable extent without affecting the other fingers... and yes there is a slight exception to this for some people who have their flexor digitorum profundus split into 2 or 3 separate muscle bellies but i dont even want to get into that)
*: they will still move slightly because theyre all connected via the lumbricals and interossei and FDB and FDL tendons
