There are three web browsers:

  1. Google Chrome (if you're normal)
  2. Firefox (if you're weird)
  3. Safari (if you're rich and kinda weird)

All jokes aside, I am one of those obstinant annoying privacy nerd who goes to great lengths for questionable gains in electronic autonomy. I'm an insufferable person with a Pinephone apologizing to people who texted me because I'm texting from a Python script that connects to Twilio. I need you to know these character flaws about me!

But I use Chromium! Yeah!

I'm a privacy asshole and yet I just can't put another ounce of energy into Firefox! This is because it breaks every time I use it and has all these horrible bugs and no amount of debugging has gotten it to "usable".

It's not their fault, Mozilla has done a huge amount of good and useful work, but they don't have the resources.

So Apple Safari Browser for Apple devices is the only bastion of hope we have left against a completely Google controlled web? Google is copying Microsoft's playbook and filling in the gaps. Firefox usage is a tiny fraction in the space of web-browsers.

I hate this!! I am so upset about this!! The internet is a beautiful and emergent and horrific and unknowable thing and it feels like we're so close to being conscious as a humanity, and not just as individual humans

and ur telling me the only thing saving us from total mind control by an evil entity is another evil, slightly less powerful entity?

this is why i am making a new blip coin web browser8.... using goopgle chroinme but no google chorme. ... manfiest v 3? haha more like man i best see three hundred percent growth in my usage sharer....

new blip coinm web reowser;: coming to a vidoegamer story near you

that's right

theres already a blipcoimn web browser and that's Opera, which is still around, somehow. it also markets itself as the Browser For Gamers. sorry buddy :(

honestly for non-freaks who care a little bit about not submitting to the Google Instrumentality Project firefox works great. i use it on everything. maybe your use case differs enough that you encounter things that I don't, or it performs wildly differently to windows on linux??

its crazy that safari still exists. its basically an apple vanity project. i don't know anyone who uses it on os x or on ios.

every browser on ios has to actually be safari under the hood, which is wild

props to apple for fighting the chrome menace at the real market: mobile.

i don't have an iphone so that's just funny to me. its like steve jobs saw nobody using safari on os x and was like "on my next operating system nobody can use anything BUT safari. its against the rules. use my browser god damn it"

It's even worse! When iPhones came out there were no third party apps, and Jobs wanted everyone to make websites instead. It was only when third party app stores proliferated that they decided to make their own.

I've used Firefox on Windows, Linuxes, MacOS, Android, iOS, iPadOS now, and I don't get it either!!

On desktop I inevitably run into Every Website Breaking, which is fixed by going into a vanilla profile. But all I do are builtin settings (no flags) and normal extensions. Undoing all of those doesnt fix it either. I swear I really tried!

On mobile I just run into UX issues

i only use it on macos when im not plugged into the wall (which is pretty often tbf) because it is a lot more power efficient. but usually i just use firefox

a handful of requests. a handful of milliseconds. and we're back.

also fun fact: it turns out markdown rendering is done server side!

like, if you type a post and you look at the tiny preview section? that's the server sending your markdown back, rendered into html. amazing
