I found it to be very difficult, but I didn't do much item hunting, and it turns out there are special tricks to kill many bosses with ease.
If difficulty isn't a turnoff, then, yes. It controls so much better than Super Metroid (the SNES one) but does not build ambiance as nicely IMO.
But I'm biased-- I love Metroid, Metroidvanias, and stupid-hard games.
EDIT: I just saw you beat Deltarune Ch2 optional boss on no-hit. In terms of difficulty, I think you'll do fine with Dread :)
