my conclusion is that it's just ok. It's definitely a fun show, and visually it's very very nice (the backgrounds are GORGEOUS and it likes to do the anime thing where every once in a while the animation gets REALLY REALLY GOOD)
the big-picture writing is a bit weak and I wish the worldbuilding was more present/consistent. And, like, it has a lot of very cool moments, but those moments only feel very loosely strung together, like they go for the payoff without first putting in the work to really set it up properly. but I still had a very good time and am looking forward to more
