there used to be a day when "being put on a list" meant some guy who chain smokes had to painstakingly scour local businesses and institutions to get an outdated name and address to write on a piece of paper, to be later typed up on a typewriter, of a list of suspecteed communists

now the lists are free and numerous and they're not even lists. they're beautiful directed graphs, of "friends".

fuzzy graph isomorphism means all the FBI needs is an intern with a bottle of adderal and a notebook of jupyter to match your social networks across linkedin, fetlife, twitter, and jstpst dot net. (no amount of opsec can save u from ur friends)

even more overtly depressing are that instagram stories seem to be the default way people share news of parties and events.

instagram stories are completely inaccessible to people who rely on screenreaders, unless they use OCR (which is imperfect and resource intensive). it feels like a way for people who consider blind people to be burdensome to insulate theirselves from blind people

posting instagram stories from a desktop browser requires wild workarounds (browser devtools + creating a virtual device of the same aspect ratio of your image)

this isn't even to mention the whole "meta provides the tools of genocide in the rohingya strip, and myanmar and israel are cut from the same cloth" thing.

i felt optimistic when there was a fresh "genocide is bad" sentiment. everyone was willing to join the same fight for a moment, but "let's stop centering queer communities around a tool of genocide" is a step too far

i feel pretty disheartened with everyone i know. except for jstpst, the only good website
