  • Undertale was a seminal indie game in 2015 about being a little guy who goes on a big adventure. It gave Game Maker a name as a viable engine, it tethered Homestuck to permanent relevance, and it showed hundreds of indie devs that they too should try and make a videogame. Its tricks are old hat by now, but if you haven't played it, you might consider it.

  • Outer Wilds is like Metroid Prime with 0% of the combat. It's a physically accurate puzzlebox packed with mystery, and I can't tell you any more, other than that you are a little guy who goes on a big adventure. Play it for an hour, at least.

  • Tunic is like The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds if Link was a cute fox and the world hated you. Like Zelda, this is a game about being a little guy who goes on a big adventure. Unlike Zelda, this is a criminally underrated game. I think Soulslikes are bad games, so don't like the "Souls-like" tag deter you: Bosses are difficult, but approachable, and death penalties aren't so bad.

  • Metroid Prime 4!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is looking like it'll just be Metroid Prime 2: Echoes again. This would be bad, if it weren't for the fact that there are no other games which copy Metroid Prime's formula. I'm quite excited, personally.

  • Environmental Station Alpha is similar to Animal Well, but packed with typical Metroidvania "pew pew laser pew" combat. The combat is difficult, the game is buggy, and the art is not very great. But this is a game packed with love. From the same dev as Baba Is You, you get to play as a little guy who goes on a big adventure.

    • Addendum: The developer recently ported this whole game to C++? From the Construct engine? And it purportedly fixed all the bugs and it runs great now! :D
  • uh

  • hmm

  • there are surely more videogames than that

  • can someone recommend a sixth videogame to play in 2025?
