So, Brighter Shores, the spiritual successor to Runescape by Fen Research, run by the original Gower Brothers, will be releasing November 6th in early access.
Trading will not be available, but no account wipe is planned.
It's uncertain if it's automated or not, but in the UK (where the brothers are based), "November 6th" starts at 8PM ET / 5PM PT on November 5th, and ends 24 hours later.
There are three classes, which seem to be mutually exclusive:
-
Cyroknight, which everyone on Reddit seems to want to be
-
Guardian, a ranger-looking character, which I imagine will be very popular with everyone who is not a Redditor, and
-
Hammermage, a stupid looking class with neither allure nor mystique. It seems invented just to have three classes.
In the interest of filling what I expect to be a niche, and in case Matt Mullenweg is also playing, I will be being a Hammermage. Not sure if that's meaningful in any way at all.
The minimum specs are appreciably lax: 2GB of RAM and an i3 or equivalent on Windows, or 8GB of RAM on MacOS, running 10.13 or greater (i.e. from 2017). It really appears as if this game was developed targeting the hardware of 2014.
I'm really excited. This game looks like it's going to be really boring and suck just as much ass as Runescape did. It lacks character and the whole thing is an eyesore. Even in the preview videos alone, it looks full of jank and I think it's going to make me really frustrated and disappointed. It's as if the Brothers Gower stopped having new thoughts twenty years ago. I love bad things.
I'm really excited for us to play bad game together!
