It's a netflix show, but a short and complete one, and a sitcom but definitely aimed at older/middle aged people, plus a Mike Shur production (The Office, Parks and Rec, B99) so many of y'all might not find it that funny or relatable buuut I enjoyed it fine and finished it in two afternoons.
In the first episode, we see the retired professor's typical day, he grooms himself fastidiously, dresses up nicely, makes breakfast, reads the paper, etc. He's very beholden to routines and isolated. One thing he does do to reach out is cutting out articles and mailing them to his daughter, who lives a few hours away from him. He has a nice walk where he drops it in the letterbox. In a later scene we see the daughter receive the letter with some annoyance, like ugh what did he send now... And later when he asks if she got it, she's like, Dad, I don't care about these articles, just talk to me like a normal person!
And I was like, outta my way, neurotypical woman, I'm boutta get it!!! Like, I love it when people send me articles they think I would like and I love getting things in the mail! This is basically my ideal mode of interaction.
But the show frames the dad doing this as sooo out of touch and like, incapable of communication. Like, he is all those things actually, but not cos of the articles thing, that's just cute.
PS. the show is apparently based on a documentary, called The Mole Agent (El agente Topo) from 2020.

Shur is also on The Good Place. That fact alone from this review got me to start watching the show, and I am enjoying it! Thank you for posting
