thanks i love this and im sure you could fill a book with example and the different history. i do feel like games in the past few years have gotten way better at architecture (and weird archtiecture is much more mainstream now through blog saturation etc) so i think things will only get better from here on out
Yeah there's such great goddamn environment artists now I wonder if games are pulling people away who otherwise would have gone into architecture. Some of the immersive sim games especially I think. Articles have been written just about the ceilings in Human Revolution and I've just started playing Dishonoured and god I love Dunwall. I feel like Viktor Antonov was really allowed to let loose on it in a way that the more realistic sci fi aesthetic of Half-Life 2 didn't really allow him to. You can really see a lot of the same ideas echoed but more so.
