Environmental Station Alpha is a Metroid-heavy Metroidvania with tiny tile graphics and a really good grapple hook. It's from the maker of Baba Is You, so it's full of that whimsy you might expect. But it's set in an unforgiving alien world.

In the Metroid taxonomy that exists only in my head, it's a "Type II" Metroid game. That means it has notes of Return of Samus, Fusion, and Dread.

"Tunicwilds" refers to games with sprawling secrets which almost ruin a replay. "Outer Wilds" is a giant puzzle which, once solved, has little to offer on a replace. "Tunic" is a great game, but has a similar giant puzzle ending.

"Environmental Station Alpha" almost gets there, and I'd say just barely exists on the "Tunicwilds" spectrum. If that means nothing to you, that's okay! It's just a good Metroidvania.

We're nearing the 10 year anniversary of the game, and the dev is still working on ESA 2. Check out Environmental Station Alpha today :3
