I've not bought it but I've been watching streams of it and like... it feels very polished but, content-wise, like an unfinished indie game. I was shocked to learn that it's apparently $60!
You can find treasure chests, but you don't open them. you just... sell them for gold?? And then use the gold to buy cosmetic upgrades for your stuff. In fact there's no loot in the game at all! Just gold and reputation. In a pirate game!
There's a lot of long lulls while you've got your course set, your sails down, and are just kinda waiting to arrive at your destination. It'd be great to have something to do during those times, like a minigame, but the game has no fishing even though you spend all of your time either on boats or close to the shore.
There's 3 enemy types: skeletons, snakes, and other players. afaict, that's it. And there's a bunch of stuff in the world that seems cool, but when you go to investigate it... there just isn't anything there. The whole game kind of feels like this empty, procedurally generated world, even though I'm p sure it's all hand crafted.
(I will say, the water is the most gorgeous I've ever seen in any game, by a wiiiide margin. And I do really like the art style overall)
I recommend this stream if you're tempted by the game and wanna get a feel for it, it's a fun chill enjoyable time but also convinced me that waiting a while for the price to drop isn't so bad. Maybe by the time the game is $10 there will actually be things to do in it.
