when i was in elementary school i was in special ed for speech therapy (there were soooo many words i could not pronounce) and the r-slur was used against me a whole lot. i didn't know any better and thought they were right

but i was also fantastically literate, and in a completely different special ed, in a peer-tutoring capacity.

this came up in the context of reclaiming slurs and i did not express myself as well as i did here. i think people thought i was joking

specifically i think what people understood from my statement was "i can reclaim the R slur because i taught special ed"

which would understandably be such a horrifying thing for a teacher who works with children with learning disabilities to say

tldr: i was in special ed, and i was a tutor in special ed. this was not understood as sincere

another funny seinfeld moment was when i was listening to a radio story about a similarity between a recent event and a seinfeld episode. with the car AC and fan on high, i had the radio up as well.

the radio show ended with an extended "seinfeld" theme song that played as i rolled into the driveway, turning off my car (and so AC and fans)

as i pulled in, the seinfeld theme blaring, my housemate exited the house and looked at my quizically.

from his perspective, the seinfeld theme song was my "driving around" music

i wouldn't share it if it wasn't funny 8)

either way if it comes up again, i'll clarify and anybody who had bad will towards me will be mortified, i am sure
