apple vision naysayers are just like iphone and airpod naysayers, in the sense that they're absolutely right
the iphone was marketed as a mobile macos during the faked reveal demo, despite web apps being the one and only sanctioned way to develop for the device. jobs was adamant on this until jailbreakers got an app store / package manager running on it anyways. at the time, the phone couldn't connect to 3G or most messaging services
the iphone sucked ass, but nobody knew because nobody could get their hands on one anyways. it wasn't until the iphone 3G that apple managed to make a device that was more useful than a nintendo DS
about 10 years later, the airpods came out and revolutionized audio by adding 500ms to phone calls and making music sound like garbage. now we have the airpods max, which use a lossy laggy bluetooth audio codec even on a wired connection. (i am not joking)
naysayers said airpods looked ugly and stupid. and they're correct, but unfortunately fashion is driven by trends which can be ugly and stupid.
where are we now? now, huge swaths of public life are gated behind owning an iphone, and almost no phones offer wired audio anymore. capitalism is working magic
now, apple is releasing the apple vision pro, forcing fresh new horrors onto the masses and driving starker the class stratification.
you might be thinking:
-
i don't want a vision pro
-
looks stupid and uncomfortable
-
lol more generative ai shit, i hate it
and you'd be right! but in ten years, you'll be wearing an Apple Vision Pro, not because you want one, but because of headlines like "Applicants Who Interview In VR 80% more likely to receive a call-back" or "Illinois introduces new DoE rebate portal -- but it's only available in the VisionVerse" or "No TikTok VR presence? Watch out for these dating red flags!"
the road to hell is paved with brushed aluminum, white plastic, and oled displays

i remember using my friend's iphone safari browser and being blown away, but my comparison at the time was like... psp web browser.
psp web browser supported flash (an older version though) lol
