wtf that's so cool. i wonder if we got rid of the functional groups and left the carbon ring intact we would still like the smell?? i think it would be cute if we liked the scent of flower shaped molecules
this is a layman's understanding but compounds with carbon rings are aromatic as opposed to aliphatic, and not all aromatic compounds smell good but a lot of them do!!
