I think it's an allegory about the world then, through its technological cleverness and scientific knowledge, confronting the battle between communism and fascism, the bourgeois being too preoccupied by their own vices and beating up protesters. In the middle, The Worker is taking the reins and will choose the future of humanity.

At least that's my reading.
