Votes are fake and authority is illegitimate, folks, so why cast so much hope upon a single vote? Or, I mean, votes do not correspond 1 to 1 to
- the deeply held commitments politicians have
- nor to the strength they hold them
- even what they think constituents think.
Votes can be negotiated between representatives of a chamber so that parties can pass the decisions they want to yet divide the political costs of unsavory decisions so that they can pass off themselves being against the decisions, on the party level or the level of an individual representative. This is not to take away the impression that these are not tight votes or battles that can turned to another direction. It's that the terms of the thing are themselves misrepresented.
