One of the nicest pieces of video game writing I've read.
I believe that video games are like comics and cartoons in that they can sometimes smuggle in things that more prestigious formats often can't and yet find largish audiences, thus giving an opportunity to make an impact not easily received from any other source. I for one learned things from Calvin and Hobbes as a kid I couldn't have accessed otherwise. This piece offers one example in that Fallout 2 is the author's first introduction to sapphic love and that the US government could be a force for evil.
Btw it has to said that one of the creators, Tim Cain, is a gay man. It might have taken a lot of subtle work to get gay romance and marriage into the game. Rebecca Sugar is on the record for how difficult it was to wlw representation on Steven Universe and here it is in a small way in a 1998 game mostly for a male audience.
