I was willing to vote for Hillary Clinton in 2016 as a lesser-of-two-evils, with the thinking "It's not like Trump is even going to win".
I was willing to vote for Joe Biden in 2020, with expectations of nothing, even while believing (at the time) Tara Reade's allegations.
It was at its most tenuous 2024, and I was willing to vote for Joe Biden despite (among other things) his collapse on stage and his endorsement of genocide. I was a bit more excited to vote for Kamala Harris, despite her endorsement of genocide.
(In 2024, I was living in a state that was very solidly blue, so I didn't vote for Harris... But I probably would have if I were in a swing or red state.) my feelings are summed up here.
All that is to say: By the numbers, I've been "Vote Blue No Matter Who", even if I disagree with that stance.
But Gavin Newsom is just too far. "Vote Blue No Matter Who" wasn't made for Gavin Newsom. I don't understand why so many Online Leftists are throwing themselves behind Newsom, in a Newsom-or-Nothing stance, before there has even been a primary. I'm certain I'm not alone here. There's no way I'm ever voting for Gavin Newsom.
The only way I could find myself voting for him is if he ran on at least all of these:
-
Death penalty for the entire Trump admin and every ICE officer
-
Afterwards, do away with the federal death penalty
-
Breaking ground on public rail in 50 states by 50 days
-
something about housing man. it's dire out here. it takes at least a year to put up a new apartment, but you can create a durable livable shelter in a week hours. a bed, a lock, running water, and insulated walls and roof. we had decades of lessons on subsidized housing. we can do it
-
Do away with Federal blood-quantum requirements and measurements and abide by the most generous interpretation of every American Indian treaty
-
Transgender for everybody
but i don't think he will
