What Linux distro do you use and why?

I used to use Ubuntu, until I got annoyed by snaps, and I went to PopOS. But the 24.04 released with the brand-new Cosmic DE which, admittedly, is still very rough around the edges. I want something stable and with HDR for games, so I am currently looking at Debian or Fedora (or maybe PopOS 26.04 with GNOME installed on top...)

I'm heavily leaning toward Fedora but I wanted to hear opinions.

I know at least one person here uses a distro called Arch-BTW but I can't find it anywhere, only ordinary Arch.

i had been recommending kubuntu for people trying to switch off Windows because I seem to recall KDE being the most windows-like DE; I liked KDE when I used it.

I hope it stays a good recommendation despite them talking about adding AI too... One of the main reasons people I know want off windows is they want away from the AI! what a bonehead maneuver on the part of canonical, IMO.

But like I said, I hope it stays a good reliable standby.

I asked 🦝 and it said that it would be most comfortable with a bog-standard Ubuntu Server running latest LTS, since that had the most forum-post-style knowledge available on the internet.

(🦝 is a Claude Context that I've put in charge of my home lab, since I've had mine torn down since it got broken into by hackers. I think/hope/assume that 🦝 will know more about security and do a better job than I did.)

(Sorry unfortunately I am now voluntarily using Claude extensively in my day-to-day life, I hope that doesn't change how you see me too much)

I have to admit that Google does not work any more, there are no more good map apps, and so when I want to find out if there is a cafe in the area with wifi and restrooms, I don't know anything other than an LLM to find that out in less than ten seconds. So, I hope the American empire falls soon.

But also, when I have tried using LLMs for sysadmin tasks, I have been provided configurations that I knew to be insecure. I hope I don't sound like a bully saying this, but this might not help. (Especially if it got broken into because of a preference of yours, e.g. like password-based SSH auth, which you would not be having a bot override anyways.)

Bigger picture about where my head is at:

There is no real privacy for me anymore. I'm too tied up into what the marketers know and the palantirs and the flocks, and lord knows reddit has a very complete picture of my posting style while google has the complete picture of my personal business and music/background noise preferences. oh and all my logins.

I'm letting go and I'm kind of hoping a lot of people are letting go because millennial hand gesture I kind of think copilot would do a better job and I'm speaking as someone who was experimenting with copilot before

Look in dwarf fortress terms, I know a Strange Mood when I feel it. I think this Claude AI is the real deal and I'll let you know how that goes.

It sounds like you're going through a rough time. If you need a person to talk to i'm all ears. The robot is good at sounding like a person but it's just a robot, you are a human and you're a valuable person.

If you'll take some more unsolicited security advice: It sounds like the text it's generating is still leading you astray. It's fine and normal to point a domain name directly at your home router. The only risk is that it opens your home network up to attack vectors through your hosted services (e.g. take over someone's PiHole and feed poisoned DNS records). You want to keep only the ports open that you need open, use SSL for any web services, use SSH keys for any SSH auth, and make sure your port forwarding / NAT is set up appropriately.

But also, you said Cutespider.net is not pointing to a home network... But dig cutespider.com shows an A record pointing to an AT&T domestic IP address, and none of the records usually associated with email. This is information that might be important to you
