oh this is extremely cool, I thought portable TVs were super awesome as a kid, and they were one of those gadgets that I thought would be really cool to own but not enough to actually get one, if an equivalent of this existed in the UK at the time though I would have so wanted it, TV on my DS? hell yeah!

Portable analog TVs built into mobile phones (they even had the long TV antenna thingy that comes out of the phone itself) were the rage back then here in the Philippines, I remember using one when I couldn't use the home's TV due to power blackouts. I don't have it anymore unfortunately but the brand is "MyPhone"

Portable TV is still kinda a thing here, but they're now USB OTG dongles, require an Android app, and they're all digital. At least you don't need an internet connection to watch TV on the phone though! An example from GMA: https://www.gmanetwork.com/news/scitech/technology/775043/watch-tv-for-free-on-your-android-device-with-gma-now/story/

oh very neat! I know they were also pretty big in Korea. I think they never really took off to the same degree here in part because our TV signal is different? I don't remember the details, but even today portable TVs are pretty underwhelming here. Same with digital radio actually.
