Ikea sells ALLEMANSRATTEN, which is one's right to field, forest and a fine meal with savoury sauce. My understanding of Swedish culture comes exclusively from Ikea and this is beautiful. It's an instant gravy mix.

This mix calls for 300mg water for four servings. So, I am going to mix it with four servings of mash potato mix, which clocks 320g water, 30g butter, 160g milk, and 90g potato powder. The recipe calls for 50g heavy whipping cream, which I lack, so I am instead substituting 20g butter and 30g milk.

I will let you know how it goes. I am writing this here so that I will (1) have it ready for myself and (2) have done a Post today in service of posting.

  • Melt 50g butter.

  • Meanwhile, measure 90g potato powder and a crack of salt into a separate bowl.

  • Add 300g water to the pan. Add the gravy packet. Beat with electric whisk.

  • Once boiling, whisk for a minute.

  • Remove from heat, add 190g milk, whisk in potato mix.

Wish me luck.

Consistency was alarmingly inconsistent at first, now it's alarmingly capable of sticking to itself but not to other surfaces, and fantastically delicious

VERDICT: YUMMY

New idea: Same idea but the breakfast potatoes are used as a medium to host scrambled eggs, waffle chunks, some bacon, and maple syrup. Blended homogenously

I used my allemansrätt today to go out and pick blueberries in the forest :)
also! fun fact! The name is a pun. Rätten can mean "the right" as in "every man's right", but also "the meal".
So in this case you could read it as Every man's meal, since its like a staple food!

:D! This is a very fun fact indeed.

I am curious how the word "rätten" reads. Wikitionary says it can be a right, a dish, or even a court or a law. Is it just a typical homonym (in the way a bank can be a place of finance or a bend in a river) or does the meaning of being a dish/meal somehow share meaning with being a right? I can see good/correct/right/nourishing being related in my head

As far as I know its just a homonym. But it does feel nice if they were to be connected

Geeze I just used any word here. Beat and whisk? Pan and pot? I should hire an editor.
