Split Fiction review

  • The HDR implementation is really well done and it works very well in this game.

  • Many of the gameplay mechanics are very simple, which is good because you have to perform them cooperatively, and because they throw so many different mechanics at you over the course of the game.

  • I am a Good Gamer but I played this with someone who is not so good. The game is so forgiving so as to make death practically meaningless. This is good.

  • I don't play a lot of AAA games, so the cinematic cutscenes and beautiful environments are really fun for me.

  • This game was very very very fun to play with a friend. I had a blast.

  • The writing and story is sooo bad. This game would have been so much better with cohesive and meaningful narrative arcs.

What gets me is that some of the story beats could hit harder if they simply set them up earlier in the game for their meanings to marinate for longer by introducing them earlier. The villain was also sooo one-dimensional it felt like satire.

I'm not used to games with such high production quality though, it drove me insane how finely-detailed something you see for two seconds would be.
