What a FAILURE for the franchise!!!

First, this is a series where the main character is NOT expressive. Let's get that out of the way. It doesn't matter whether or not the voice acting is good- it had NO place in this franchise.

Second, can we just agree it's a bad idea to have gated progression around a hub world? For a 3D adventure game like this, there should be a more naturalistic, flowing environment.

Seriously, this is the first third-person adventure game in the series. Despite that, you can only move in eight directions.

To make matters worse, they have a first-person mode that renders you immobile, but is also used to gate progression. What???

What a poor showing as a sequel to one of the best SNES games of all time.

I'm talking about Super Mario 64, title unrelated

Other M didn't have a hub, and SM64 did have full 360 analog movement.

I thought it locked to eight directions, like 3D Land and 3D World did?

Other M's 'hub' was in having (like Fusion) a central ship with smaller mostly-independent regions. It's not actually something I think is bad, though. (The "hub" is just Norfair or Magmoo Caverns in SM/ZM/Prime)

Oh yeah I'm totally wrong! Most of my joke hinged on that. Dang.

I guess my memories were marred due to a (1) cheap gamepad I got for the WiiU over a decade ago and (2) playing Super Mario 64 on the Nintendo DS. I was too young to remember Super Mario 64 properly
